Aims: Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry This department is composed of pharmacology and chemical medical plants and chemical pharmaceutical’s branches. 1- Pharmacology and chemical medical plants department: the purpose of this department is to prepare a good pharmacist who has fixed base about all the medications that are taken from the plants, and this will be done by studying the medical plants which producing these ores and study their physiological specifications. This department is studying the ways of collecting, planting, storing the plants and coping the abrasion of the plants. The department will study the types of the plants and their species and families and the places of their availability in the nature. The work of this department is developed to chemically study the medical products and their availability in the plants by studying them as secondary products. The department is studying the ways of having the medical products in order to study their chemical effects, this will be done by extracting the products and separate them by using the new ways and chromatography. So this department is providing the students with the academic and applicative knowledge throughout the scientific classes in order to develop their skills in getting the medical and industrial products. Also this department is studying some of the economies of the medical plants and their geography, especially the toxic and anesthetic medications. This department is indicating the Iraqi medical plants that are available in Iraq. 2- Chemical pharmaceutical branch: It is one of the basic departments because the student will be prepared to know all the chemical materials for different compounds with their effects in the body, in addition to their side effects. This subject is studying the materials that are prepared in the lab from the famous medical ores, this includes the chemical forms and how they are being absorbed and embalmed and excreted inside the body. This subject is talking about the medication doses especially the anesthetic ones. The student will know in academic way all the famous diseases and he will implement his knowledge and prepare some of the medications in the college’s labs. The student will study this subject in four classes through two years, and one class in the fifth stage includes the laboratory analysis by using the physical measuring devices like: diamond device, and infra red and ultra violet rays’ devices, measuring acerbity degrees device, and NMR device….etc. Dr. Abdul Mutalib Abdul Ghani Nasser naser_aa@baghdadpharmacycollege.org Chemical pharmaceutical and medication branch Professors
